Waste Water Heat Recovery Systems (WWHRS)

Why is it important?

Waste Water Heat Recovery Systems attached to showers are a proven and cost effective way to achieve substantial energy savings, points for your SAP assessment and reduce your carbon footprint.

How does it work?

Hot water from a shower goes down the drain, losing only a couple of degrees.

This hot water either clings to the side of the pipe exchanger or drips on to a coiled copper exchanger below.

The cold water is then brought into the system on the other side of the exchanger.

The heat transfers from the outgoing hot to the incoming cold, allowing a temperature increase of around 15 degrees.

The pre-heated cold water then feeds the shower, boiler and/or cylinder.

Hints & Tips

  • The system is likely to pay for itself within 4 years due to savings on utility bills.

  • The system delivers the lowest £/point in SAP, making it very attractive as a new build product. It can also be retro-fitted.

  • The system requires a small upfront cost with no ongoing maintenance or need for support from a customer service team.
