The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) and Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), have published guidelines to help assist homeowners, estate agents and lenders in understanding how the Green Deal will affect property sales.
The guidelines state that “in principle”, the green deal should not affect mortgage affordability for potential customers. This is in response to some critics of the scheme, who have said that Green Deal on properties could be off putting to buyers.
A recent study by DECC has found that installing energy saving measures will be likely to make a home more saleable, by up to 38%, due to the appeal of warmer and more comfortable homes as well as long-term lower energy bills.
