Project Background: Create a fully designed optimised heating system with technical on-site support for a large residential development of 43 new homes. This was for a rural off-gas village in Northamptonshire.

Challenges: Our initial assessment highlighted that oil and LPG options would not meet SAP requirements. Also, any external units needed to be located away from the properties for aesthetic reasons, whilst still needing to maintain strong heat input levels.

Design & Estimation Added Value: The design team specified a split heat pump which most cost effectively met the customer’s requirements. This decision came from an impartial assessment which highlighted that heat pumps were right for this build over electric heating. Principal reasons for the choice were better efficiency, lower running costs, a longer working life and that heat pumps would integrate better with the chosen heating system.

Outcome: The Design & Estimation team provided a comprehensive solution and the insurance backed designs which were provided gave confidence to all parties. First, the installers felt reassured that the ASHP package was the right technical solution. Second, they became confident that the performance of the products would meet the homeowners requirements.

Testimonial: “I was very pleased with the SBS design capability and how they helped us meet our heating design and installation requirements. The design saved us time, and was carried out in timely and efficient manner, and they specified and supplied the complete schedule of products.” Tim Carpenter, Managing Director, Mears New Homes
