Barker says market looks positive for solar energy

Greg Barker, Minister of State at the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC), says the market looks very positive for solar energy in the UK.

Speaking at the Renewable Energy Association awards dinner, Barker stated that the costs of Solar PV has dropped by more than 60% since he was appointed Minister of State for DECC in May 2010. Over half a million people now have solar panels installed on their homes and nearly 550, 000 homeowners and business have registered for the feed-in tariff, this a 26% increase from 2013.

Barker said he would like to see an energy market, ““not of the Big Six, but of the Big 60,000. We stand today, closer than ever, on the threshold of a ‘power to the people’ revolution. Empowering and helping to drive down costs for consumers as well as putting pressure on outdated, monolithic business models”.
